Raising the Roof!
A Southwick Recreation Center Fund Raiser
The Southwick Recreation Center, an independent non-profit organization which has served the local community for over 60 years is starting a new fund raiser called “Raising the Roof”. The Southwick Rec Center building which was built around 1975 is in dire need of a roof and in the past two years we’ve invested money into patching the roof due to several leaks. It is now time for us to completely rehabilitate the roof and is very costly with estimates ranging from $75,000 to $89,000. Unfortunately, dealing with Covid-19 for the past year and half sharply limited our sports programs and has severely hurt our organization financially.
The independent organization which formed in 1961 as a baseball program expanded over the years into boy & girls soccer, basketball, girls softball, tee ball, floor hockey and a school age program. Throughout the years we have been very fortunate to have dedicated Board of Directors, parents whom have coached or volunteered to work the snack shacks and we cannot thank them enough for being part of the Southwick Recreation Center family.
The Southwick Rec Center was able to have a very limited basketball and soccer program due to COVID-19, however we were still able to operate the School-Age Program, an affordable before and after school program, from the gym with strict guidelines from the Board of Health.
Now that the State of Massachusetts has lessened restrictions, we are hopefully that we will be able to start up our regular programs for the remainder of the year. The organization hopes that folks that helped out the Rec Center in the past from Southwick, Granville and Tolland or had their children participate in our sports programs can contribute to the fundraiser “Raising the Roof!” so that we can continue to serve the kids of this community as we have done in the past.
